Until March 31, Educational Institutions Are Closed
The government has announced to shut down all educational institutions in the country till March 31 due to the worsening situation with coronavirus. Deputy Prime Minister of Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury said this on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Dhaka University authorities have declared the education program temporarily postponing the students’ summer vacation.
From March 18 to March 28, the university’s class examinations have been temporarily suspended. The decision was taken in view of the opinion of 36 teachers.
Coronavirus infection was diminishing in the capital’s educational institutions. Students from various universities including Dhaka University, Bangladesh Agricultural University, BUET, Chute have started classes. University teachers have also made statements demanding declaration of leave.
They will take action as advised by the Ministry of Health on what the Education Ministry had been saying for so long. But on Sunday, Health Minister Zahid Malek said the education ministry will be open or closed, it is the matter of the Ministry of Education.
Teachers, students and parents are of the opinion that educational institutions should be shut down quickly. In the meantime, a large section of school-college-university students is refusing to go to class because of the terror.
Yesterday, the presence of various educational institutions in the capital was low. Shahan Ara Begum, principal of Motijheel Ideal School and College, said yesterday that his establishment had a 50 to 60 percent attendance.
Many parents are not sending their children to school. Fouzia, principal of the Vicarunnisa Noon School and College, said the attendance at the fourth grade morning was low yesterday. And the presence of Diva branch was more than 50 percent.
At least 96 students in the three departments and institutes at Dhaka University have dropped the class test. BUET students did not take any classes yesterday as they did the previous day. Students of Rajshahi University also demanded that the campus be closed. All the students of the university’s Department of Mass Communication and Journalism have decided to boycott the classes indefinitely from today.
Student attendance at Rajshahi Engineering and Technology University (RUET) has also declined. Students from Jagannath University today decided to drop the class exam. All the faculty students of Bangladesh Agricultural University located in Mymensingh also decided to drop the class.

Authorities have announced to shut down all educational institutions in the country to prevent the transmission of the Coronavirus. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting on Monday.

Sources in the meeting said that it was decided to close all educational institutions in the country till March 31.
For the first time on March 3, three coronavirus patients were identified in Bangladesh. Later on Saturday (March 14th), Health Minister Zahid Malek told a press conference that two more people were suffering from coronavirus in the country.
Earlier on Sunday, Health Minister Zahid Malek had said that the education ministry will announce the closure of educational institutions to prevent Corona infection. Not the Ministry of Health.
One day after that announcement, all educational institutions in the country were declared closed.
Meanwhile, the Dhaka University administration also decided to close the campus at a separate emergency meeting. The university administration made the decision at an emergency meeting on Monday afternoon.
